Laura Overstreet
Laura started playing guitar and writing songs at 11-inspired by her grandmother who played Carter Family tunes and folk tunes. She began performing at 13 in duos and trios playing folk/rock and progressive country. After traveling a couple of years playing in a duo, she settled down to go to school and minored in music at the University of North Texas. She eventually had a family but kept playing as much as possible. Family gatherings typically came with a jam session and Western Days and the Texas Folklife Festival provided the opportunity to continue to enjoy performing. She began to get back into the swing in 2000 with the release of "As Is". The CD received airplay on radio stations in the Texas Hill country and in North Central Texas. She combined originals with covers of classic country tunes in performances at the Smokehouse in Fort Worth and the Trail Dust in Dallas and Arlington. Since moving to Bellingham, she's appeared at open mics at The Green Frog Acoustic Tavern, Fairhaven Martini Bar, Main Street Bar and Grill, The Wild Buffalo, Archer Ale House, and Chuckanut Brewery. Her second CD "Sundays" will be released this spring and she has 2 more CDs she hopes to record in 2008. She provides additional support for songwriting and recording by teaching college. She also keeps busy raising two daughters. Check out her myspace at www.myspace.com/txlauraoverstreet
